| A Brief History of Tinsmithing:
In the early 1500's, the Spanish conquistadores, explored and conquered
what is now the American Southwest. These early Spanish settlers imported
tinsmithed objects for their own use. By the mid- nineteenth century, tin
plate was regularly traded along the Santa Fe Trail and considered to be
better than gold. Local Hispanics were fashioning tin, with brass and copper
accents, into their own decorative and functional containers, candle sconces,
kitchenware, mirrors, frames and other household items. Today, it is a dying
art form. Only a few artisan's continue this beautiful craft.
